Track Of The day- Octave One - Daystar Rising (UR)

Octave One were, and still could be, masters of the minimal grove. This on e was initially released as a double a side on UR with Rolando’s ‘Aztlan’ on the flip. They made quite a few tracks like this back in the day, but this one is a s good an example of any of how to hold a groove at a constant level. Like a runner who is able to keep an even pace in a race, this one doesn’t let up. It’s clear that anyone who has listened to Octave One and their deep pursuit of the groove should be able to see were Aril Brikha got inspiration for ‘Groove La Chord’, so much so that Brikha remixed this track, doing a great job. Other artists who have taken a leaf out of Octave One’s book, knowingly or not, are Levon Vincent and Maurizio. And then you’ve got Mood ll Swing. Influenced by them or not, but certainly making similar stuff, the artists mentioned all had their finger on the musical pulse of life itself.
