The phrase “all time techno banger” is thrown around willy nilly these days. This track though should be one example of such a thing were it to be found in a dictionary. What makes it such a great track is the fact that it does indeed bang, but there’s so much funk and space in it. Stretched over almost 12 minutes, the fervent percussion and synth flourishes propel it into dilated diaphragm delight. You’ve got a smorgasbord of symphonic Detroit motifs within, but nothing feels crowded, in spite of the density. It’s a sonic contradiction in many ways, but this undulating, self-perpetuating piece of UR magnificence could go on for twice as long and still find ways to surprise. Great mixing track as well, pitched a little bit down for maximum textural layering. Definitely better than the ‘Strategic Mix’, but ‘Eleye’. Now that’s another story.
