Soma has released a lot of great music. However, their most potent period was arguably the mid nineties when they really found their feet. This track is an early effort from Steve O’Sullivan, which would have been released around the same time that he put out some stuff on Russ Gabriel’s Ferox as Ephebe. And there’s a similarity between those tracks and this one. There’s a much housier feel to this, underlaid with a techy minimalism. It’s undeniably funky and also nods a little bit to the filter disco sound that was sweeping all before it at the time. A mixing track to be sure, and from an EP that went under a lot of people’s radar when released. Still funky after all these years though.
