Track Of The Day: Octave One - Siege (430 West Records)

One of my favourite Octave One tracks, there are many. I saw them live at Cream more than 20 years ago, and they’re still touring, being great global ambassadors for techno and Detroit. I’ve always been struck by how infectiously funky their tracks are. Maybe it’s because the elements that constitute them are so simple which allows each one to be highlighted throughout, even if it’s just a handclap. The production is razor sharp, and the foundation is almost always a linear groove that just defies you not to dance or nod your head. The titles are often coming from a place of deep consciousness and reflection, and are well - chosen inasmuch as they easily evoke complementary imagery within the music. I would play most of their stuff pitched down, but it’s very adabtable.
