Up-and-coming producer Zobol (sounds likes line from ‘Great British Menu’) comes correct with a pair of upbeat electro jams that feel all glitchy and borderline chaotic at times on the surface, but are anchored by a pervasive low end undercarriage. This is much more in evidence in ‘YCLK’ which is darker overall, but illuminated by synaptic synthesised embellishment. Both tracks have identity, energy and more funky layers than Rupaul’s face. Carl Finlow and Plant43 are arguably the two most distinguished UK electro producers of this, or any era; so not a bad pair to have on remix duties. The remix of ‘Meridian’ is geometric b-boy breakdancing blitzkrieg at its finest. With traces of the originals high end, it’s all about the humming bass and the sudden drops of funk frequency. Plant43’s remix is more compressed and tetchy. There are traces of his trademark melodic style, but this time it’s a little bit stripped down in the style of the original. All in all, this shows a producer developing his own style, nicely complimented by a couple of remixes from the best in the game. Lovely stuff.
