The first track of Oribital’s first, self-titled album, or “The Green One”. ‘The Moebius’ is a slow building statement of intent. The first stage of a deliberate voyage into multi-layered sound nebulae. It’s an incredibly funky piece, with what feels like a combination of various types of Latin American (batacuda) – influenced percussion underlaying more urgent electronic knob twiddling, gradually getting heavier as the track progresses. It’s a fertile template and one that allows for infinite mutations, which is sort of appropriate. I saw Orbital twice in Paris in the mid nineties, and am off to see them tonight in Cambridge. Should be groovy.
“There is this theory of the Moebius. A twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop from which there is no escape.”
“When we reach that point, whatever happened will happen again.”
