Track Of The Day- Music For Freaks & Their Friends - Spoo (Plink Plonk)

Possibly the first time the name ‘Music For Freaks’ was used, and it’s an early collaboration between Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon on Mr C’s Plink Plonk. I suppose, consciously or not, this marked a new direction for the label which had, until this release, been pretty much techno orientated. ‘Spoo’ is years ahead of it’s time. It’s sort of downtempo acid, the type of production that would mark Derrick Carter out as a producer of some originality. There’s no doubt that it could dovetail nicely into an ALFOS set, pitched down a little maybe. The production is dense and tropical, the acid starts to seep in around 2 minutes from the end. Up to this, there’s been a Barry White style groan “ahh”, “Oh”, “Oh yeah”, “yeah”, which sounds like the work of DC, no stranger to the walrus of love incantation. Predates ‘Boompty Boop Theme’ by a few years and is a fine example of music that’s best appreciated when you’re twatted.
