Title: The Whole Damn Drift EP
Artist: Burroughs
Label: Outer Zone
Cat Number: OUZ05
Genre: Techno
1: Strung Out
2: NREM
3: The Whole Damn Drift
These aren’t new tracks, having been composed 4-5 years ago, and, I woulod imagine, endlessly tweaked since. Whatever they started out as is therefore irrelevant and lost in the mists of time. How they finished up is here for all to hear, and I daresay it’s been worth the wait. Three pieces of deep, emotive machine funk is the result and it’s good that they each chime in longer than most. Impossible to pick a fave as they’re each so good. ‘Strung Out’ has anthemic qualities, without feeling cheesy; ‘NREM’ is the least sweeping of the three, indulging itself in reflective, percussive bliss, and ‘The Whole Damn Drift’ sort of blends reflection with transcendence to maybe be the most complete piece here. Straight out of Glasgow, courtesy of La Cheetah, and absolutely brill!
