The Ashigakari series showcases an eclectic range of dance floor ready tracks which are, by association, also an opportunity for new partnerships and collaborations to be born. Starting with Doc Sleep’s ‘Rubber Fig’, an effervescent and agile piece of high end, stripped down, tracky tech-funk, we pass through the sunkissed piano-led disco of ‘My Best Pearls, and the deep, tribal journey ‘Only Heaven May Manifest’. ‘Turn The Corner’ is a little more abstract and incorporates Captain Nemo arpeggios which bring a radiophonic workshop feel. ‘The Loon’ brings the release to a close with a rough piece of drum and bass with hardcore and rave flourishing around its sub bass. Compilations like this can so often miss the point, but the standard here is set so high that every piece hits home and eloquently contributes to the composite whole.
