The first of the 10” Burial Mix series and it’s a killer. Setting the standard for what was to follow and laying down a template which was to take dub in a slightly new direction. Having said that, for many it was probably “move along, nothing to see here”. There is so much fine detail in the backing track though. It’s so rich and doom-laden; a subterranean journey through the dub catacombs. Paul St. Hilaire’s vocals are at the same time familiar and alien, and harmonise eloquently with what feels like a somnolent journey into the outer limits. And, although this is music that feels like it doesn’t want to get out of bed, its stamina is unabated.
