After having mentioned Ferox in a post a couple of days ago, my mind’s been on this track ever since. Which is something considering the label’s distinguished discography. It’s often the case that a very early release on a label lays down a marker for what may come later, and this is a perfect example. Of course it’s also the case that some will say that such tracks are never bettered, which wouldn’t be true in the subjective sense. However, looking objectively, there may be something in that concerning this particular composition. Only the second release on the label, and 30 years old now, this dates from the golden age of British techno. Emotive, atmospheric, and as far as pace is concerned, sitting slap bang in the middle of chin stroking and the dance floor, this tune more than matches most of what came through during that period and is still very much sought after, both on original pressing and 2019 repress. Expertly produced and with great restraint and attention to detail, this is dawn of time emotive techno at its best. The soundtrack to thost fish finally getting out of the primal sludge and growing some arms and legs.
