Title: All In Good Time
Artist: Black Bones
Label: Optimo Music
Cat Number: OMDD50
Genre: Dub House Disco
1: All In Good Time
2: Pressure Point
A couple of bits here, heavy on atmos, echo and momentum. There’s a sax in ‘All In Good Time’, make of that what you will. For me it’s always risky. Here I think it’s a bit overused. Far more interesting is the sense of beat entropy that kicks in at around 2:40, the sound of a machine steel drum starts running against the grain. There’s a lot of echo and a “low slung bass”. All of these are good things, but the jury’s out on the sax. ‘Pressure Point’ is more ambient, and due to its more straight up dub (in the true sense of the word) stylings, more of a sonic abyss. It’s a drunken monkey of a track, which feels like it may lose its shape, only to have it recomposed at strategic intervals. Both tunes could be the backdrop to different periods of a lost weekend, depending on substances ingested.
