The second volume of Cultivated Electronics’ split series, following up that featuring Defekt and Rico Casazza, sees Tripeo, aka Darko Esser, and Francisco Aguado, aka Cycloplex team up to free our minds in the hope, no doubt, that our asses will follow. Both of Tripeo’s tracks use the space between the grooves to devastating effect and, in doing so, manage to maintain a lightness of touch that belies the heaviness occasionally deployed. This is particularly true of ‘Echo Cages’, while ‘Bullshit Detector’ is subtly energetic, and uses the type of psychedelic orchestral swathes The Beatles once did. Both of Cycloplex’s tunes rumble along, consumed with their own menace. They each deal on what feels like machine decay. ‘Hypertension’ evokes malfunction and subsequent emergency, and ‘Alarm Activated’ is a floaty voyage into a realm where the limits are always being pushed.
