A nice double bill here. As myself and the missus are tracking up to Sheffield later today for Cabaret Voltaire’s last ever gig, (so they say), here are two tracks that won’t be played. The first is a classic from ‘Red Mecca’, highlighting Steven Mallinder’s growling vocals and Richard Kirk’s sax. The other is A Kirk solo effort. The former engenders a sense of latent paranoia in spite of the beats and momentum. The second couldn’t be more different in tone, and is dreamlike in parallel with grooviness. Both works of genius, both incredibly influential and moving. We shall never see their like again.
