Rereleased courtesy of Clone towards the end of last year on pale pink vinyl no less, this EP from Abstract Thought, yet another pseudonym for Gerald Donald, first saw the light of day in 2019, in spite of being recorded, and then shelved, in 2003 (I think). This is the second of three untitled compositions, each of which are excellent in their own unique way. ‘Untitled 02’ is a concise piece of mysterious sound design that encapsulates Donald’s unique take on electro, echoes Drexciya and also UR, the high end synth stabs having already been heard on such masterpieces as ‘Code Breaker’. ‘The Illuminator’ is another classic UR track that is evoked, although more in mood than anything else. This is very good company to be in though, and a measure of this compositions depth and sonic mapping. As Clone say themselves: “Music beamed through Dimensional Waves by Abstract Thought. Three unnamed Abstract Thoughts taken from the original project tapes from 2003, recorded around the same time as the well known full length album release. Sonic expressions that will need your own interpretation to lead to a reality-oriented conclusion.” No more need be said, except to be thankful for the fact that music like this exists, and that it continues to inspire.
