Pure Space Recordings is an Australian label dedicated to pushing Australian music. So, for its third release we’ve got Rings Around Saturn, making tracks that sound like they come from a country with more poisonous and weird animals than anywhere else on Earth. Both ‘Grip’ and ‘Subterranean Electro’ do as much as they can within the confines of electro to subvert the genre, while still being recognizably robotic. ‘Grip’ is a bass-heavy plunge into an interplanetary synapse junction, whereas ‘Subterranean Electro’ is a much more animated, skittish sonic rendering, which reminds me a little of some of 96 Back’s recent material.
