Ducking the three minute moment by some distance, Wire’s ‘12XU’ is a concise rendering of everything good in modern, guitar-led composition. Whatever relevance the lyrics have is secondary to the noise being made, which is immense. There’s a sophistication and gravitas to the harmonic drone that spans genres, making this, the closing track from their debut album, ‘Pink Flag’, one of the most notable two minutes to come out of the seventies, no matter when its played.
